Vol. 82 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monthly Motor Taxation Payments.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state whether, in view of the difficulties under which lorry owners and others dependent on their transport for their livelihood are labouring at the present time, he will arrange that payments of motor taxation be accepted for monthly periods.

If the difficulties which the Deputy refers to are the difficulties arising out of the rationing of petrol I understand that reasonable supplies have been allocated for commercial lorries. I may point out that the cost of licensing a vehicle is only a small portion of the running expenses. If the proposal were agreed to licences would require to be printed for each month of the year as well as for quarterly and yearly periods. I am not satisfied that there is any need for the change suggested.
