Vol. 83 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Special Court Messenger.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will state when John Breheny, recently convicted of fraudulent conversion of money while acting as special court messenger in County Wicklow, was appointed to that position, by whom was he appointed, and what sureties did he provide for the proper performance of his duties.

John Breheny was appointed as a court messenger in County Wicklow in September, 1937. The appointment was made by the under-sheriff for the county with the approval of the Minister for Justice in accordance with the provisions of Section 4 of the Enforcement of Court Orders Act, 1926. Sureties were not given: it is not the practice to require them. Breheny had been previously employed in the same capacity in several other counties and had given entire satisfaction.
