I move:—
That a, sum not exceeding £10 be granted to make good an Excess on the grant for old age pensions for the year ended 31st March, 1940.
Payment of current salary and arrears of salary from 1st January, 1935, to a clerk to an old age pension subcommittee gave rise to an excess of £55 17s. 7d. on sub-head B. — Expenses of Pension Committees. No specific provision is made in the Estimate for charges against sub-head D — Sums Irrecoverable — or for charges against sub-head E — Extra Statutory Grants — as normally the sums involved are relatively small, and can be met from savings on sub-head A. In the year, here in question, charges of £29 9s. 0d. and £105 18s. 0d. fell to be borne on sub-heads.
