Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cutting of Timber.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the quantities of timber cut on State forests and the area deforested during the years 1940 and 1941, the area which it is proposed to cut down during the current year, and the measures taken to replace the timber which has been cut down during the last two years or will be cut in the near future.

The reply is in the form of a statement, which will be circulated in the Official Report.

Final figures as to clearing and planting during 1941/42 are not yet available, but the area planted will exceed 4,000 acres. The area to be cleared during the current year and the area to be planted next winter are dependent upon various factors and cannot as yet be stated definitely.
