asked the Minister for Finance if in view of the increasing scarcity and cost of petrol, oils, tyres and other accessories to the running of taxicabs he will arrange for a substantial reduction in the rates of tax payable by taxi owners.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax on Taxicabs.
While I am aware of the considerations mentioned by the Deputy, I must also have regard to other circumstances, including the recent increase by 100 per cent. in the minimum fare chargeable for the hiring of a taxicab, and the need for avoiding so far as possible further shrinkage in the revenue of the Road Fund. I cannot hold out any hope that it will be possible to grant the reduction in motor licence duty advocated by the Deputy.
