That a sum not exceeding £31,416 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1943, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Land Registry (40 and 41 Vict., c. 57; 54 and 55 Vict., c. 66, and No. 10 of 1924, sec. 102); and of the Registry of Deeds (2 and 3 Will., 4, c. 87; 27 and 28 Vict., c. 76; 30 and 39 Vict., c. 5 and 46 and 47 Vict., c. 20).

What is the Minister going to do to expedite the working of this Registry of Deeds? He did not say a word about it.

Mr. Boland

We have no specific complaints.

There is not a solicitor in the country who is not complaining.

Mr. Boland

I do not want to blame the solicitors, but it is not impossible that the solicitors themselves may be to blame. They may blame the Registry of Deeds and the Land Registry for some of their own delays. There are some arrears, which are being overtaken, I understand, but we have had no specific complaints. If complaints do not come in, we naturally take it for granted that everything is all right.

When I get the next bundle of complaints I will send them on to you.

Mr. Boland

Send them on.

Vote put and agreed to.
