Vol. 86 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Raspberries.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether, in view of the increase in wages and the increase in the value of land products generally, he will take steps to fix a price for raspberries which will secure an equitable return for the producers of this fruit.

The Deputy is, no doubt, aware that the price of raspberries has not so far been fixed by Order, but has been agreed by the jam manufacturers and fruit growers. No representations have been made by fruit growers that such a price Order should be made, but if such representations are made the matter will be considered. A considerable increase in the price of raspberries has taken place since 1939, and last year's price of 56/- per cwt. should be highly remunerative to fruit growers, making due allowance for increased costs of production.
