Vol. 87 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sugar Supplies.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he has received a number of complaints from people in Drumconrath, County Westmeath, that they have been unable to obtain their ration of sugar for a considerable time; and whether he is in a position to say what steps have been taken or will be taken in the immediate future to ensure that the persons concerned will get the sugar ration to which they are entitled; further, whether he will state why the letters of complaint addressed to his Department were not acknowledged.

Only two complaints were received in my Department from persons resident in Drumconrath, County Westmeath, regarding their inability to procure their weekly sugar ration. Both complainants were registered with the same shopkeeper from whom inquiries were made, and following on these inquiries, which were only recently completed, the quota of the shopkeeper in question was adjusted to enable the maximum weekly sugar ration to be supplied to all registered customers.
