Vol. 87 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Importation of Plate Saws.

asked the Minister for Supplies whether he is aware that applications for permits made by British exporters of plate saws and inserted saw-teeth to the Export Control in Great Britain to enable them deliver these implements to their Irish consumers have been refused; whether he is aware that British exporters have, in fact, stocks of the implements in question available for their Irish trade if permits for their export were made available in Great Britain, and whether, having regard to the importance of securing supplies of such implements, he will take whatever steps are open to him to secure from the British Control necessary permission to enable British suppliers to make delivery to their Irish consumers.

I am aware that the United Kingdom authorities have refused licences for the export of saw-milling equipment in general to this country. Representations have already been made to the appropriate authorities in that country, but intimation has been received that there is little prospect of an easement of the existing restrictions on export.
