By arrangement with the Pigs and Bacon Commission certain curers will supply the requirement—about 1,978 cwts. —of the Defence Forces for the month of July. Contracts will be made by my Department direct with the curers.
Mr. Broderick
In reply to a question of mine, Sir, on June 23rd, relative to the closing of four mills in County Cork, the Minister for Supplies stated in his reply that it was in the exercise of powers given to him, under Emergency Powers (No. 165) Order, 1942, that these mills were being closed down, and that that power was given to him, not for the purpose of punishing offences, but for the purpose of conserving essential food supplies and for the welfare of the community and the public good. On that question of the welfare of the community and the public good, I give notice, Sir, of raising this matter on the adjournment.
The Deputy's notice is accepted.
