Vol. 88 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Juvenile Delinquents.

asked the Minister for Justice whether any progress has been made in the institution of a suitable clinic for the examination of juvenile delinquents on remand.

Mr. Boland

I am not at present in a position to add anything to the reply which I gave on the 18th June last to the Deputy's question on the same subject.

Is the Minister aware that during the last five years this matter has been before Dáil Eireann and that in a published statement in the Press, some six months ago, the Minister solennly announced that he had, after consultation with His Grace the Archbishop of Dublin, decided to take steps towards this end. How long are the steps going to take? Is it going to be like the Pearse Street Post Office for which we had to wait five years? How long does the Minister think it will take?

Mr. Boland

When the Deputy asked this question about three weeks ago I told him that the premises we had inspected were expected to be ready by the end of the summer. It is not a question of building in this case. We have the premises and it is a question of adapting them. I do not see what the Deputy is going to gain by raising the matter every fortnight.

I have gained something to-day. I have got a date. Will the Minister say the 1st September?

Mr. Boland

I will not.

Will the Minister say the 1st January?

Mr. Boland

We hope to have them at the end of the summer unless something turns up.

I will put down the question again for the 1st September.

Mr. Boland

Put it down.
