Vol. 88 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding in Donegal.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the serious damage done by flooding to the arable land in the townlands of Rathfragan, Drumholm, Rossnowlagh and Birrah, Donegal, due to the accumulation of sand, gravel and sea-weed at the exit flood-gate; and whether his Department will consider an alternative scheme for draining this tillage area from Durnish Lake to the sea at Beal Bán where there is a clear exit and no accumulation of gravel.

It is a matter for the occupiers of the lands affected at Rathfragan, Drumholm, Rossnowlagh Lower, Birrah and other townlands to make the necessary arrangements for the upkeep and maintenance of the drainage works affecting these lands, including the floodgate and outlet channel at Bunlin Barr, and the Land Commission are not prepared to take any further action regarding the maintenance of these works or alternative schemes for the drainage of the lands.
