Vol. 89 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Attendants' Bonus.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state whether a decision has yet been arrived at regarding the extension of the emergency bonus to night and Sunday telephone attendants.

The Government's decision to grant increased remuneration to State servants on account of the increased cost of living included night and Sunday telephone attendants but, on account of their special conditions of employment, there were some difficulties in applying the bonus award to them. It has now been arranged, subject to certain limitations, to pay them the emergency bonus with effect as from 1st January, 1943.

Can the Minister say when it will be paid?

Mr. Boland

It will be paid soon but I cannot say when.

Approximately?

Mr. Boland

I cannot say. Anyhow, they are saving it up for them.

They would prefer to save it themselves.
