Vol. 91 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Licences for Export of Wool.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he will state the number of firms to which licences were granted subsequent to June 1st, 1943, for the export of wool and the total quantity permitted to be exported under such licences; and, further, whether he will state in respect of public or private companies to which such licences were issued, the date upon which each company was registered in this country.

Licences were granted subsequent to the 1st June, 1943, to 15 firms permitting the export of wool. For reasons of public policy it has been decided to publish, for the present, only the total value of exports and imports. The information required by the Deputy regarding the quantity of wool permitted to be exported cannot, therefore, be given.

I have no information as to when any of the exporting firms were registered in this country, but this can be ascertained in respect of any particular company by any member of the public on application to the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, Office of the Revenue Commissioners, and on payment of the necessary fee.

Arising out of the Minister's reply, could he state if a company, registered in 1940, and not previously engaged in the export of wool, have been granted this year a licence for the export of wool to the amount of something like £100,000?

I should require further particulars in regard to that question, but, so far as I am aware, that is not so.

Well, will the Minister inquire into this matter?

I should have to get further particulars.
