Vol. 91 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - The O'Dowd Estate (County Mayo).

asked the Minister for Lands when the O'Dowd estate, near Louisburgh, County Mayo, was acquired from the owner; and if it is a fact that, during the intervening years, nothing has been done to relieve congestion or carry out improvement works on the said lands; and when it is proposed to take up this work effectively.

The estate in question would appear to be that of Patrick O'Dowd, Record No. S.4501, County Mayo, an estate of tenanted land coming within the ambit of the Land Act, 1923, which vested in the Land Commission under Section 9 of the Land Act, 1931; on 1st May, 1931, the appointed day. Improvements have been carried out to certain roads and drains on the estate, involving an expenditure of £764, and the question of carrying out further works will be investigated at a later date, in connection with possible rearrangement of holdings on the estate. It is not possible in present circumstances to state when the investigation can be put in hands.
