Vol. 91 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuberculosis Sanatoria Treatment.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if his attention has been drawn to the statement of the M.O.H. of County Dublin, to the effect that applications for tuberculosis sanatoria treatment are on the increase, whilst there is a more acute shortage of institutional accommodation; if he will now state if any further proposals are in hands to improve the position.

Everything possible is being done at present to provide increased institutional accommodation for persons requiring treatment in Dublin City and County. There is a good prospect that 153 additional beds will be available within a few months.

Mr. Byrne

Would the Minister say where the possibility is of beds being available?

In several places. I will deal with that on the Estimate.

Mr. Byrne

Is the Minister aware of the very great hardship existing, when sufferers from tuberculosis in the early stages have no accommodation at the moment?

There is no person more sensible of these regrettable facts than the Minister.
