Vol. 91 No. 10

Ceisteanna.—Questions. Oral Answers. - Attack on Irish Ship.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he has yet received particulars of the attack on the S.S. "Kerlogue" at 4 p.m. on Saturday, 23rd October 1943; if the attacking plane was identified; and, if so, if any protest has been lodged with the Government concerned.

I have received certain particulars in regard to the attack on the M.V. "Kerlogue" on the date mentioned, but those so far available do not enable the identity of the attacking aircraft to be established. The investigation into the matter is proceeding.

Would the Minister consider the advisability of having Irish seamen instructed in methods of aircraft detection, in order to prevent doubt arising in the future?

I will see about that. I feel sure that already they have got charts. I have seen them elsewhere, and I expect they would have them, also. However, I will see what the position is.

Is there any doubt in the seamen's minds, or in the Taoiseach's, whence this aeroplane came, because there is no doubt in anybody else's mind?
