Vol. 91 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Recognition of Italian Governments.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether either of the Governments at present established de facto on Italian territory is given diplomatic recognition by Éire in Italy or elsewhere; whether he will state which of these States is so recognised; and whether he will indicate whether Éire has any relations with, or commitments to, the other State not so recognised.

The Government of the King of Italy, presided over by Marshal Badoglio, is the Government with which this country has diplomatic relations. In the course of his duties in relation to the protection of our citizens in Rome, our Minister there has to communicate with the de facto authorities in that area. But this does not involve diplomatic recognition.
