Vol. 91 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Food Parcels for Great Britain.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that it is customary during the Christmas period of each year for residents in this country to send to relatives and friends in Great Britain parcels of butter, bacon, eggs, fowl, etc., by parcel post; and, if so, if he will state if the existing restrictions will be relaxed, and to what extent; and whether he will publicise, in good time, the conditions to be observed; and, further, if he will confer with the British representative with a view to facilitating the delivery of such postings in Great Britain.

I regret that owing to the supply position it will be impossible to relax for the coming Christmas period the existing restrictions on the export of butter, bacon and eggs. The sending of poultry as a gift is rendered impracticable by British regulations, which limit to two lb. the quantity of any one article of food which may be imported by private persons.
