Vol. 92 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wheat Yields.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state, with reference to the average yield of seven barrels of winter and six and a half barrels of spring wheat per acre published by his Department, how the necessary data are collected and the figures computed.

The figures for wheat yields recently published in the Department's report on agricultural conditions for October, 1943, were based on returns furnished by instructors in agriculture employed by county committees of agriculture. The instructors base their returns on information obtained from farmers after completion of threshing operations and from threshing mill owners. The figures must be regarded as approximate pending the submission of more detailed returns, which are at present being prepared.

When further details are available, are there any additional check tests made?

That is the idea. Further checks are made before we publish the final figures.
