Vol. 92 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cheap Fuel Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is prepared to extend the benefit of the cheap fuel scheme to single men over 40 years of age who are occupiers of rooms and who are in receipt of 10/6 unemployment assistance and food vouchers.

There is no information available in public departments which would enable single men over 40 years of age, in receipt of unemployment assistance and food vouchers, who are occupiers of rooms to be distinguished from men in the same category who are not occupiers of rooms. The fuel scheme is intended primarily for the benefit of households and in view of the increasing number of recipients, which now number approximately 30,000 in Dublin, I cannot at present consider the extension of the scheme to any other classes of persons.
