Vol. 92 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Operation of Compulsory Tillage Order.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the Compulsory Tillage Order was complied with in the year 1942 in respect of lands in the possession of the Land Commission in Peake, Dunmore, County Galway, and if not, why not.

I am informed that the Land Commission have not yet taken possession of the lands referred to by the Deputy. The Land Commission were not, therefore, responsible for the tillage in respect of these lands under the Tillage Order for 1942. I am having inquiries made as to the position in regard to compliance with the Tillage Orders by the responsible party, and I shall let the Deputy know the result of these inquiries in due course.

I wonder if the Minister is aware that the people who were on this land were ordered to leave it, as the Land Commission were due to divide it in the coming spring; that the land and the potato silo there were left idle, and that now the land is being grazed and no potatoes have been produced.

I have not got full particulars yet.
