Vol. 92 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply Charges.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that the recent increases by the Electricity Supply Board are causing considerable hardship amongst many of the poorer dwellers in towns and cities, and if he will consider the advisability of seeing whether these charges could now be revised; and, also, if he can state, in detail, the reasons for these increased charges.

The increases in charges by the Electricity Supply Board have been allowed only after an examination of the financial position of the board. The increased charges are justified by increased costs of the Electricity Supply Board arising out of the circumstances of the emergency.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he has now received a letter from Tullamorc Urban District Council, dated 18th November, 1943, complaining about the charges of the Electricity Supply Board for erection of a public lamp in the urban area; and, if so, what action he proposes taking in the matter.

I have now received the letter referred to from the Tullamore Urban District Council. The charge in this case has not been investigated in particular, but all accounts and costs of the Electricity Supply Board have been investigated, and I am satisfied that the level of charges in general is reasonable and that excessive charges have not been made. I do not propose to investigate the multitude of individual charges made by this undertaking and representations in respect of such matters should be addressed to the board.
