Vol. 92 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allotment of Land Commission Houses and Farms.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state how many unoccupied Land Commission houses and farms there are in County Meath at the present time, and what steps he intends taking to have those houses and farms allotted to suitable local applicants who are able and willing to occupy them and to work the farms to the best advantage.

The Land Commission are not in a position to state definitely how many of the houses on parcels of land allotted are unoccupied by the allottees at a particular time. They endeavour to exercise surveillance through their inspectors as far as possible, and warnings are issued to allottees ascertained not to be in occupation of their houses. If these warnings are disregarded, proceedings may be instituted to take up the houses and parcels from unsatisfactory allottees, for re-allotment to more suitable persons. At present, the Land Commission have under consideration some 50 cases of allottees in County Meath who have been reported as not in occupation of the dwellinghouses on their parcels, and in ten of these cases proceedings to resume possession are now being instituted.
