Vol. 92 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Portlaoighise Sewerage Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he has received representations concerning the absence of sanitary accommodation to certain houses on Stradbally Road, Portlaoighise; and if he will state what action he will take in the interests of public health to see that the sewerage scheme is extended to comply with the request of the local ratepayers for proper sanitary conditions.

My Department has been in communication with the Laoighis County Council in regard to the sanitary condition of certain houses on Stradbally Road, following representations made by another Deputy. A report was received from the county medical officer of health in October last, in which he stated that he could not recommend the extension of the sewer, as most of the houses in the area are regarded as unfit for dwelling-houses, and expenditure on the installation of water and sanitary services would not be justified. The matter is still the subject of correspondence with the local authority.
