Vol. 92 No. 7

Written Answer. - Grants for Bog Roads in County Clare.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state (a) the amount of grants received by the Clare County Council for the years 1941-42; 1942-43; 1943-44 in accordance with the terms of the Local Government circular for the repair of county and bog roads rendered impassable or partially impassable by turf traffic; (b) the number of the estimates and their amounts for such roads prepared by the county surveyor for the Clare County Council and submitted by him to the Local Government Department for sanction; and (c) the number and amount of grants actually sanctioned for each of the above years.

It is assumed that the Deputy is referring to the circular of 3rd April, 1941, No. C.L. 36/2/41 in relation to turf production. The allocation of grants was not referable to financial years but to the turf production seasons of 1941, 1942 and 1943.

The following amounts were received by the Clare County Council as grants for bog development (including drainage and the construction of bog roads) for the years referred to:—
