Vol. 92 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Mayo Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the holding of John Joyce, of Errew, Castlebar, County Mayo (including an addition given by the Land Commission to Mr. Joyce under a letting for temporary convenience), has been sub-let by the owner for the past seven years; and if he will take immediate steps to ensure that these lands are made available for local congests.

Under a scheme for the rearrangement of tenanted holdings on the Pratt Estate, John Joyce surrendered to the Land Commission his holding of about five acres, and was given in exchange a rearranged holding of 3a. 1r. 3p., and an additional parcel of 12a. 0r. 38p. He signed purchase agreements on the 1st June, 1934, in respect of both the rearranged holding and the additional parcel. The lands have not yet been vested in the purchaser. The Land Commission have not at present any information as to how the lands are being used, but inquiries are being made in the matter.
