Vol. 92 No. 18

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tractor Parts.

asked the Minister for Supplies if he is aware that Fordson tractor owners cannot now procure essential replacement parts such as crankshafts, ball races, etc., and, as a result, tractors urgently required for tillage purposes are immobilised; and if, in view of the importance of having every available tractor in working condition, he will make representations to the appropriate Departments in Great Britain for the purpose of trying to secure the necessary release of a quantity of such vital parts.

I am aware that certain essential spare parts for Fordson tractors are in very short supply and that some tractors are immobilised as a result. Representations have been made with a view to securing the supply of a quantity of such parts but I am not yet in a position to state the outcome of such representations.

The Minister has said that certain parts are in very short supply. Does the Minister know they are not there at all?

In some cases, yes.
