Vol. 94 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Provision of Boots and Clothing.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state what progress, if any, has been made regarding the proposed scheme to provide boots and clothing to those on public assistance and to the small income classes.

As stated in my reply to the Deputy's question on the 9th ultimo, the provision of boots and clothing which may be required by those in receipt of public assistance is a matter for the public assistance authority. The proposed scheme which was then referred to had relation only to the distribution of footwear to children of persons with low weekly incomes. The framing of such a scheme is difficult as there are problems of supply and other matters to be investigated and it is still under consideration. In any event, it is not intended that any such scheme should be brought into force before the autumn.

It is under consideration?
