Vol. 95 No. 2

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Public Holidays.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he will consider including Good Friday as one of the public holidays to be observed under the Conditions of Employment Act, 1936, the Shops (Conditions of Employment) Act, 1938, and the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1939.

It is not proposed to introduce legislation to provide that Good Friday shall be a public holiday under the Acts regulating holidays with pay for various classes of workers. Under the Holidays (Employees) Act, 1939, railway companies may substitute Good Friday for Easter Monday as a public holiday in the case of nonindustrial employees.
