Vol. 95 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Departmental Committees.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state what committees have been set up in relation in any way to his Department for the purpose of making recommendations or helping in post-emergency development work intended to increase production and employment; the date the committees were set up; the names and qualifications of their members; and the dates and matters on which any reports or recommendations have been received; and whether and when it is intended to publish these reports or recommendations; and if it is not intended to publish them, the reason for not doing so.

I have set up one such committee, namely, the Committee of Inquiry on Post-Emergency Agricultural Policy. This committee was appointed on 8th September, 1942, and particulars as to its personnel and terms of reference were given in a Press announcement issued on 9th September 1942. The following Interim Reports have been furnished by this committee: — First Interim Report, on the Cattle and Dairying Industries, furnished on 5th August, 1943; Second Interim Report, on Poultry Production, furnished on 10th March, 1944, and Third Interim Report, on Veterinary Services, furnished on 28th July, 1944. The reports on the cattle and dairying industries and on poultry production were recently published. It is hoped to arrange for publication of the report on veterinary services at an early date.
