Vol. 95 No. 6

Mental Treatment Bill, 1944—FirstStage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to provide for the prevention and treatment of mental disorders and the care of persons suffering therefrom and to provide for other matters connected with the matters aforesaid — (Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government and Public Health (Dr. Ward).

What is the urgency of this that it has to be circulated on white paper instead of green paper?

In case the House does not meet next week — so I am informed. I raised the same question.

Did you think of it only this morning?

No. As the Bill is available, the Dáil might as well have it.

When will the Second Stage be taken?

Wednesday, 29th November.

Is it not proposed to sit for two weeks?

It is a rather comprehensive measure, and, whether we sit or not, it would require to be in the hands of Deputies for at least a fortnight.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say when the Bill will be circulated?

I hope on Monday next.

I thought the Minister said it was available.

It has to be transferred.

Second Stage ordered for Wednesday, 29th November.
