Vol. 95 No. 8

Ceisteanna. — Questions. Oral Answers. - Landing Facilities at Renard Point, Kerry.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that the fishermen of Valentia Harbour and those interested in the fishing industry are dissatisfied with the present landing facilities at Renard Point, Cahirciveen, and if in the near future he intends to enlarge the slip at Renard Point.

I understand that the landing accommodation at Renard Point is regarded as unsatisfactory by the local fishermen and other persons concerned. The question of providing improved facilities has been under consideration from time to time, but estimates made of the cost of achieving results which might be expected to prove effective and permanent have been so high that the work could not be undertaken. I will have the matter reviewed when normal conditions are restored in the hope that some measure of improvement in existing accommodation at reasonable cost may be found feasible.

Is the Minister aware that Valentia Harbour is one of the most important fishing centres in South Kerry?

It is very important from any point of view.
