Vol. 96 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is yet in a position to state when it is likely that a decision will be arrived at on the question of amending the abatement clauses in the Military Service Pensions Acts, 1924 and 1934.

No decision on this question has yet been reached, but the matter is still under consideration.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state with reference to military pensions (a) the number of cases heard by the Referee in which final rejection notices were issued, and (b) the number of such cases in which the I.R.A. representatives on the board signed minority reports in favour of the applicant.

The number of cases heard by the Referee in which final rejection notices were issued to date is 48,552. The number of such cases in which the I.R.A. representatives on the Advisory Committee signed minority reports in favour of the applicants does not exceed five.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number and names of persons granted rank under Rule 4 of the First Schedule to the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934.

So far as can be ascertained without a detailed examination of all the qualifying reports made by the Referee, the number of persons granted rank under Rule 4 of the First Schedule to the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, is 189. A list of their names is being prepared and will be forwarded to the Deputy at an early date.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state, in respect of County Wexford (a) the names and addresses of the persons from whom applications for service certificates were received under the Military Service Pensions Act, 1934, and (b) the names and addresses of the persons to whom pensions were awarded, showing in each case the amount awarded and the date on which the pension was first paid.

A statement is being prepared furnishing, in so far as is practicable, the particulars required and will be forwarded to the Deputy at an early date.
