My Department has for some time past being encouraging local authorities to have housing schemes prepared and ready for contracts as soon as conditions would permit of building operations being resumed. I cannot at present, however, make any statement as to when building activities may be resumed. A good deal will depend on how soon materials which are in short supply can be secured, and in this respect the position is being kept under constant review.
