Written Answers. - Cost of Social Services.

Mr. O'Connor

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state the total expenditure by counties and the total amount of contributions from State sources for each of the following during each of the years since 1932: (i) school meals; (ii) free milk scheme; (iii) major public health works; (iv) treatment of tuberculosis; (v) widows' and orphans' pensions; (vi) blind welfare; (vii) school medical service; (viii) maternity and child welfare; (ix) treatment of venereal disease; (x) assistance in kind to recipients of home assistance; (xi) recoupment of home assistance in certain cases; (xii) supplemental cash allowances to old age pensioners, etc.; (xiii) cheap footwear.

Return of (1) total expenditure of Local Authorities on the provision of School Meals under the Education (Provision of Meals) Acts, 1914 to 1930, and the Schools Meals (Gaeltacht) Acts, 1930 and 1933 and (2) the amounts recouped to the Local Authorities from the State Grants.

Mr. O'Connor

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he will state: (1) the amounts paid in cash benefits under the National Health Insurance Acts in each county in 1944; (2) the total amounts provided since 1932 in each county for—(i) the various types of road works, (ii) the provision of land for allotments, together with the amount of the contributions made by the Exchequer in each case; (3) (a) the total amount paid since 1932 in each county by means of grants to private persons and public utility societies in respect of the erection and reconstruction of houses; (b) the total amount spent since 1932 by local authorities on the erection of houses in (i) urban areas, and (ii) rural areas; (c) the total number of houses built and reconstructed since 1932; (d) the total number of labourers' cottages erected, and the cost, in each county since 1932; and the number of cottages vested in tenants since that year; (e) the amounts made available in each county under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts; and (4) the total payments made since 1932 from Sweepstakes funds in respect of hospitals in each county.
