Vol. 98 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hackney Licence.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state if he has received applications for a hackney licence in the Mountmellick area to replace the car owned by Mr. M. Hyland, which ceased to operate there; and, if so, if any of the applications has been successful; and, if not, if he will ensure that a licence will be issued to a suitable applicant at an early date, as there is urgent necessity for an extra car in the area.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply I gave in the Dáil on the 20th June, 1945, to a question by him on this matter. Since Mr. Hyland ceased to operate a hackney vehicle in the Mountmellick area, there have been applications for permits for hackney vehicles in that area, but they were not allowed as none of the applicants fulfilled the necessary qualifications.

I am not aware that there is an urgent necessity for an extra car in the area, and I have nothing to add to my reply of the 20th June, 1945.
