Vol. 98 No. 3

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Food Gifts.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is prepared to remove the restrictions on the forwarding by Irish citizens of gifts of food to their friends, and members of their families, in Great Britain; and, if so, whether action will be taken in this matter before Christmas, 1945.

I regret that it is not possible to alter the existing practice regarding the export, as gifts, of articles of food to residents in Great Britain. Some essential foods such as dairy products generally, bacon, pork and lard are in short supply while the export of others such as poultry and canned or cooked meat is the subject of special trade agreements or arrangements.

Is it likely there will be any alteration in the position between here and Christmas to justify the Minister in relaxing the Order?

It is unlikely there will be any alteration before Christmas.
