Vol. 98 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - L.D.F. Man's Compensation.

asked the Minister for Defence if he has received satisfactory medical evidence to prove that Mr. John Wheeler, Castlegrogan, Errill, County Laoighis, is still suffering from the result of an accident which occurred while he was on duty with the Local Defence Force in September, 1944; and if he will now sanction payment of compensation to Mr. Wheeler at the appropriate rate without further delay.

Further medical evidence has recently been received regarding Mr. Wheeler's condition. In the light of this evidence, the Army Pensions Board is being asked to review the case.

In view of the fact that this case has been under consideration for over 14 months and that during that period this man, his wife and large family have been without an income, will the Minister use his good offices to see that a favourable decision is arrived at at an early date?

Yes, I will see that it is dealt with as quickly as possible.

In the event of an accident to a soldier, or of a soldier falling seriously ill, are his dependents or his next-of-kin notified of the illness or accident as soon as possible?

That is a separate question.

Is there no reply to my question?

It is a separa question.

I am asking a simpl question.

It is a separate question.

I do not like to bother Ministers too frequently and, as a matter of fact, some of them are more elusive than electric hares. Instead of causing expense by putting down a Parliamentary question, I suggest that my question could be answered.

The Deputy could speak to me outside.

Very well. I know of a case of a man who died whose parents were not notified until after his death.
