Vol. 98 No. 11

Private Deputies' Business. - Adjournment of the Dáil.

I move that the House do now adjourn until Wednesday, 5th December.

Why? There is plenty of Private Deputies' business to be dealt with. We are discussing a very urgent and important motion at the moment and there are 11 other motions.

Why is the House adjourning until next Wednesday in view of all the business we have to do? There is no sense in it. What are we being paid for?

Can the Government give any reason why we should stop this discussion?

There will be no Government business to-morrow. Many Deputies have other work and it is not proposed to give any more Private Members' time than we have already given. We have been very generous in the matter.

I suggest that the Minister is running away from the discussion on the Order Paper to-day. It is a very urgent matter that we should know what is to be done with regard to housing. There are at least ten more Private Members' motions on the Order Paper and we are in the middle of the discussion of one motion which we agreed to suspend simply because the Taoiseach was indisposed.

I think you had better put the motion, Sir.

Quite apart from the Private Members' business——

I suggest you put the motion, Sir.

I claim the right to speak and I propose to insist on that right.

The matter must be decided before 9 o'clock whether we meet next week or not. I am putting the question that the House do now adjourn until 3 p.m. on Wednesday, 5th December.

Why not meet to-morrow?

I am putting that question.

It is a disgrace.

Question put and declared carried.

There are only four members behind the Minister. How can it be carried?
