Vol. 98 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Wicklow Branch Railway.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is proposed to reopen the Woodenbridge-Shillelagh branch railway line for goods and passenger traffic.

Córas Iompair Éireann found it necessary early this year to lift some of the track on the Woodenbridge-Shillelagh branch railway line, as they were unable to procure new rails for essential maintenance. This branch cannot be reopened until such time as new rails are available in sufficient supply to meet arrears of essential maintenance and to permit of the relaying of rails in the portion of this line from which they had to be removed.

I understand that the rails have not been lifted on the portion of the line between Woodenbridge and Aughrim. Would the Minister be prepared to consider reopening that portion of the line as there was a good deal of traffic thereon arising out of the flourmill and other industries?

I think the Deputy had better give notice of that question.
