Vol. 99 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Distribution of Oranges.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the dissatisfaction arising out of the distribution of oranges whereby large quantities have been diverted to the black market; if he will take steps to prevent a recurrence of such happenings and if he will make a statement on the future supply position.

I have received no complaints that large quantities of oranges have been diverted to the black market. Some instances of overcharging, by retailers have been detected and the offenders are being prosecuted.

I have assigned space on Irish ships for imports of further substantial quantities of oranges from Spain. There will also be additional imports from Palestine.
