asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that turf of excellent quality is available in very large quantities in the areas of West Cork, North-West Cork and North Cork, and if he will have these areas inspected and reported on by the technicians of his Department, with a view to having them included with the other areas set out for development in the national turf scheme now proposed.

I am advised that preliminary inspections carried out by the Turf Development Board, Ltd., have not disclosed any bogs suitable for mechanical development in the areas referred to by the Deputy. A detailed survey of the larger bog areas is at present in progress, and in due course the position in Cork will be re-examined in the light of any further information becoming available.
