Vol. 99 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork County Council Grant.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the grant allocated to the Cork County Council (Western Assistance District) to provide supplementary allowances for old age pensioners was found to be inadequate to meet the claims of all deserving applicants; that the county council provided a sum of £1,200 odd to meet such claims; that they have requested a recoupment of 75 per cent. of this amount from his Department in accordance with the terms of the grant; and if he will state when the recoupment will be made.

The public assistance authority has been notified that the additional expenditure will be recouped at the prescribed rate. Payments on account of the grant are made at intervals on receipt of requisitions from the public assistance authority. I expect that most of the expenditure incurred in the present year will be recouped before the close of the year.
