Vol. 99 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Fertilisers.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the importation from Northern Ireland of certain classes of artificial fertilisers is not permitted by the authorities of this State at the Border, and if he will give the reasons for such prohibition.

There is no prohibition on the importation of any class of artificial fertiliser.

Is the Minister aware that, up to recently, it was possible to import fertilisers from Northern Ireland, but at the present time the Revenue authorities on our side of the Border are interfering with and certainly prohibiting the smuggling of fertilisers into the Twenty-Six Counties? Can the Minister give any reason why we should interfere with the smuggling of fertilisers into this country?

That is a separate question.
