Vol. 99 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Supplementary Allowances.

asked the Minister for Local Government and Public Health if he is aware that the recoupment allowed to the South Cork Board of Public Assistance in respect of the payment of supplementary allowances to old age and blind pensioners was found to be inadequate to enable the board to meet the claims of all deserving applicants; that after his statement in the House on 29th May, 1945, the board provided over £1,700 to meet the balance of such claims; that they have requested a recoupment of 75 per cent. of this amount from his Department, and if he will state when the recoupment will be made.

The public assistance authority has been notified that the additional expenditure will be recouped at the prescribed rate. Payments on account of the grant are made at intervals, on receipt of requisitions from the public assistance authority. I expect that most of the expenditure incurred in the present year will be recouped before the close of the year.
