Vol. 99 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Beet Seed.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that a consignment of 40 tons of beet seed has been imported; that more than sufficient beet seed has been grown by Irish farmers during the six years of the emergency to supply home needs; and if it is his intention to protect this industry of growing beet for seed purposes by prohibiting the import of beet seed.

The answer to the first two parts of the question is in the affirmative. The importation of sugar beet seed save under licence, has been prohibited since the 1st September, 1942.
