Vol. 99 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Commission Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the aggregate area of land in the hands of the Land Commission at present in (a) Éire, and (b) in County Roscommon.

As the area of land in the hands of the Land Commission varies from day to day it is not practicable to give precise figures. Round about 95,000 acres probably represents the area acquired under the Land Acts, 1923-39, at present on hands for division of which approximately 12,000 acres are in County Roscommon. In addition, an area of roughly 20,000 acres purchased many years ago by the Congested Districts Board still remains for final disposal, and about 400 acres of this are in County Roscommon.

Almost two-thirds of the total area on hands consists of residues of turbary, waste and mountain land difficult of disposal.
