Vol. 99 No. 7

Committee on Finance. - Vote 43.—Dundrum Asylum.

I move:

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £110 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1946, for the Expenses of the Maintenance of Criminal Lunatics in the Dundrum Asylum (8 and 9 Vict., c. 107).

The additional sum is required to meet the increase in the emergency bonus and the cost of a temporary attendant in lieu of an attendant on sick leave.

What is the average cost of maintaining a patient in Dundrum Asylum?

I am afraid that does not arise on the Supplementary Estimate.

Surely it is because the Minister's Estimate was exceeded that we are passing the Supplementary Estimate?

I explained that the sum is required to meet the increase in the emergency bonus and to pay for the services of a temporary attendant to replace an attendant on sick leave.

Can the Minister not tell us what is the average cost of maintaining a patient in the asylum?

I am not in a position to give the figure because I have no information as to the number of inmates in the asylum.

Very well; we shall get that in answer to a Parliamentary Question.

Certainly.

Vote put and agreed to.
Supplementary Estimates reported and agreed to.
