Vol. 100 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Ground Limestone.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if, in view of the results of recent experiments showing the advantage of ground limestone over other forms of calcium, he will consider equalising the lime subsidy on this commodity, so as to encourage its use as the best source of calcium.

As ground limestone is equivalent to approximately half its weight of burnt lime, it would be inequitable to allow equal rates of subsidy.

Surely the Minister realises that the experiments which have been carried out in Great Britain have proved conclusively that the beneficial results are greater from limestone than from caustic lime?

I would not admit that.

Well, it has been proved. It may not have been proved here, but it has been proved in a country where they have taken greater interest in this question.
